MURRAY -- Marshall County added another game in the win column Friday night at Calloway County. The Marshals secured the 20-14 win late in the game, forcing a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter.

Coach Evan Merrick said that the team is looking better every week. This week they held the Lakers to offensive yards and two touchdowns.

Luke Wyatt and Ty Buchmeier each punched through the Laker defense for 89 yards of rushing totaling three touchdowns.

The first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 19-yard run by Buchmeier but the point after failed giving the Marshals six on the board.

The Lakers took the lead in the second quarter with a one-yard quarterback keeper by Kanyon Franklin.

A 15-yard penalty assessed against Marshall County on the third down forced the Marshals to punt at 1:50 in the second quarter with no opportunity to score before the half.

Marshall County was back to scoring in the third quarter with a six-yard run by Luke Wyatt and a two-point conversion by Buchmeier. Calloway County answered with an eight-yard touchdown run by Franklin to tie the score 14-14 with 51 seconds left to play in the third quarter.

Both teams fought for control of the final 12:00 of the game. The Marshals used the used the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to move the ball 65 yards and retake the lead. Buchmeier was there for another 19-yard touchdown run for 20-14.

Calloway County pressed on, into the Marshall territory, taking the ball to second and seven on the eight-yard line. Franklin was tackled for a loss of one yard making, it fourth and three. A run by Zach Orange netted no yards and turned the ball over on downs with 4:23 left in the game.

Marshall County advanced the ball 45 yards earning three first downs and took a knee to end the game.

THIS WEEK: The Marshals return home this week to host McCracken County.

NEXT WEEK: Marshall County will be on the road next Friday as the team travels to Daviess County.
