Powell signs letter of intent to join the Murray State University golf team

DRAFFENVILLE -- Tyler Powell, member of the MCHS golf team for four years, has committed to play for Murray State University.

Powell has participated in the KHSAA state tournament for the past four years. He was named three times to the region one All-Region team.

Powell was the individual runner up at the region one tournament in 2019.

In the 2018 season, Powell received two individual medalist and two runner-up individual medalist. He had five top five finishes and four top 10 finishes in 2018. He placed third in the 2018 region one tournament and was named to the KHCS All-State Second Team.

As a freshman, his tournament average was 81.9, as a sophomore it was 79.6, a junior was 73.8, and as a senior, his tournament average was 74.8.

Powell is also a member of the MCHS basketball team. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Interact, and a leadership student mentor at MCHS. He has volunteered for Special Olympics, Marshall County youth basketball, and the Kentucky Jr. PGA.

Powell has been named to the KHSAA Academic All-State first team.

Powell is the son of Bridget and Tommy Powell.
