The boys took their first regional title in five years last week. Marshall County faced McCracken County in the regional championship game for a 2-1 win.

PADUCAH -- The Marshals are heading to the state soccer tournament for the first time since 2014 after their win over McCracken County last Wednesday earning the 2019 region one title.

Marshall County took the first round of the regional matchup in a 4-1 victory over Paducah Tilghman. Bryson Penn was first on the board for Marshall County. William Lynch added the second and another goal by Kiefer Court, brought the half-time score to 3-0.

Paducah Tilghman was down two players in the first half of play. Paul McKnight was down just seconds in the game. Joseph Gilituk got shaken up as Penn headed the ball in the goal taking him out, as well.

Paducah Tilghman looked to make it on the board just barely into the second half with a penalty kick. The shot went high, and it was back to Marshall's game with a quick goal by Colin Riley.

With 11:00 left in the game, the Tornados made it to the board on a score by Ivan Aburto. The Marshals took the win on a 4-1 game and advanced to the championship game against McCracken County.

The Marshals took the championship win over the Mustangs with one goal scored midway through the first half and a second in the last minutes of the game.

Bryson Penn was perfectly placed to head a corner kick by Drake May into the goal for the first Marshall County goal. Penn had a second chance, but the McCracken County keeper Gavin O'Donley got enough lift with his fingertips to send it over the frame.

Both teams dug in to take the win that would advance them to the state tournament. The Mustangs chalked up four yellow cards in their attempts to stop the Marshals, but Marshall County padded their lead with a shot by Chase Riley making it 2-0.

In the last seconds of the game, McCracken got off a near goal, threatening the shutout for the Marshals, but a tip over the top by Ben Burkeen secured the shutout win for Marshall County and their tip to the state championship.
