The Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce recognizes women in the community who represent their business or organization well. So many leaders leaders have unique backgrounds and stories, and the chamber would like to share those stories.

Mayor Rita Dotson, City of BentonQ: What is a general description of your daily duties as mayor?

A: “I manage the day to day activities in the city, so I have multiple meetings daily, many of them now on Zoom. I meet with supervisors of different departments to discuss which jobs need to be done and how they will do them. I have an open door policy, so I meet frequently with the public and employees. I also get out in the community frequently to see what needs to be done and to look at any concerns.”

Q: How long have you been with the City of Benton?

A: “I have been Mayor seven years this January, and I also served on the council for eight years. I was a small business owner prior to being mayor.”

Q: What is your favorite aspect of your job?

A: “Being able to interact with the people is my favorite part of the job and seeing improvements in our community!”

Q: What is one piece of advice you live by as a business/community leader?

A: “Treat others as I would like to be treated and to go out and make a difference!”
