Mason and Mary Thompson, of Hardin, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24, 2019.
Mason and Mary, high school sweethearts, were married in 1949 in Corinth, Mississippi and celebrated with a brief honeymoon in Aurora, Kentucky.
Mason is an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean conflict. He retired from the Marshall County School System after serving as a custodian at South Marshall Elementary and a bus driver. This followed more than 30 years at the Tappan factory in Murray, until the factory closed. And during these years, the Thompsons also farmed
Mary is a retired seamstress who worked at various garment factories in the area and ended her career working at Corn Austin in Murray. She also joined Mason in his work at South Marshall Elementary and farming.
Mason and Mary are members of the Hardin Church of Christ where Mason served as a deacon for many years and continues to serve as a song leader.
The Thompsons have two children; Teresa Thompson (Randy) of Murray and Tony Thompson (Shawn) of Wellington, Florida. They have three grandchildren; Teresa's daughter, Katie MacDonald (Rick) of New Bern, North Carolina and Tony's children, Aaron and Audrey Thompson of Wellington, Florida. They also have two great-grandchildren; Evalina (Lina) and Alexander (A.J.) MacDonald.
A private anniversary celebration was held the day of their anniversary at the Thompsons' home with immediate family.
