The Marshall County Sheriff's Office warns of a new scam received by telephone call currently targeting Marshall County residents.
Capt. Tim Reynolds reported a local couple was contacted by someone claiming their pharmacist or doctor ordered a cancer screening and obtained their Medicare information and address. Then, the couple received a mouth swab in the mail to complete and send back.
Reynolds said Medicare advised it was a scam and said they would be billed later after Medicare denied payment. He said Medicare further advised they not complete the mouth swab test.
Reynolds advises the community always use caution when anyone calls attempting to obtain personal or financial information. Anyone receiving this call, he said, should contact their medical provider for confirmation.
