Road improvements ongoing in Benton

Construction crews make the most of cooperative weather as they continue laying the base asphalt where 5th Street, Main Street and Poplar Street intersect in Benton. Benton Mayor Rita Dotson said crews plan to put on the top coat of asphalt for the entire project in the first week of November if all goes well, which will only leave the sidewalks and parking areas that will hopefully be finished by the end of this year. Dotson said Benton Gas System is working to relocate lines on Main Street between 6th and 9th Streets, as well as moving lines from the Regions Bank parking lot to the parking lot at Hutchens BBQ. The city’s water department plans to begin the second week in Nov. working to install 10-inch water lines between 9th and 15th Streets on Main Street in preparation for stormwater drainage and road improvements for both Main and Poplar streets.
