David Taylor Chrysler Dealership celebrated its grand opening Friday afternoon in Benton.

Owner David Taylor took the helm and rechristened the dealership from Parkway Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram at 101 W. Fifth St.

Taylor said he wants to continue the spirit of customer service emphasized by past owners Ted and Kevin Kinsey.

“We hope to carry on the condition the Kinseys had,” Taylor said. “They took care of their customers and did a great job of service, so stepping in was an easy transition.”

The dealership is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Taylor bought Parkway in October and had a soft opening the same month, changing the name to the same brand as his two other dealerships — David Taylor Chrysler of Mayfield and Murray.

He said business closures prompted by COVID-19 have been unprecedented, but his dealerships were able to reopen Monday per Gov. Andy Beshear’s orders.

For months the dealerships became accustomed to “curbside paperwork,” Taylor said, handling contracts through barely-ajar doors with gloves and masks.

“It was scary but we were considered essential for the sake of safety recalls,” Taylor said.

Before October, Parkway operated for 34 years under the Kinseys. They announced the change of ownership on their Facebook page, with words of appreciation for the community and their longtime customers.

“If you’ve done business with us over the last 34 years, from the bottom of our hearts, we love and appreciate you,” the former owners wrote. “The amount of calls, texts and kind words haven’t gone unnoticed. We truly appreciate all of them.”
