KSP Post 1 honors trooper killed in line of duty image


September 13 marks the fourth year since Kentucky State Police Trooper Cameron Ponder was fatally shot on a roadway in Lyon County. Tomorrow, KSP Post 1 will lay a wreath near the site of his death on I-24 West near the 49 mile marker in Lyon County.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and anyone who wishes to show their respect is welcome to attend.

Ponder was 31 years old when he was fatally shot on Sept. 13, 2015 while conducting a routine traffic stop on I-24 in Lyon County; he was only nine months into his career. He is buried at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery in Ft. Knox.

In his honor, I-24 in Lyon County from the Caldwell County line to its intersection with Kentucky Route 293 is designated as the Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder Memorial Highway.
