On Dec. 22 at 1:20 p.m., the Benton Police Department, Benton Fire Department, Marshall County EMS, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the intersection of W. Fifth Street and Ash Street, for a vehicle collision. The collision involved four vehicles, with possible injuries.
As officers arrived on scene, it was discovered the driver of the vehicle that caused the collision, had fled the scene, on foot. The driver, a 16-year-old, was apprehended a few minutes later, in a fielded area behind the old Dollar General store.
It was determined that the juvenile suspect, had just escaped the custody of the courts, then fled on foot to the area of Fivestar at Fifth and Main Street. While at Fivestar, the juvenile suspect, stole a vehicle and headed West on W. Fifth Street at a high rate of speed, before running the red light at W. Fifth and Ash Streets and striking several vehicles.
The 16-year-old suspect was placed into custody and charged with the following charges Escape Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Wanton Endangerment Second Degree (Police Officer),- TBUT Auto over $10,000, Leaving the Scene of Accident with Serious Physical Injury, Leaving the Scene of Accident- Failure to Render Aid, Criminal Mischief Third Degree, Wanton Endangerment Second Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police Second Degree (On Foot), and Fleeing or Evading Police Second Degree (Motor Vehicle).
