Marshall County High School Senior and National Speech and Debate Association Academic All American Karly Jones has taken first place at the KHHSL State Speech Tournament in the event of Broadcast Speaking.
Jones has been competing in this event since she was a freshman. After being the State Runner-Up last season, and the Regional Champion two years in a row, she brought her very best this year to be named Tournament Champion.
This year’s tournament was held virtually, so competitors state-wide were able to continue to compete. Jones was also recognized as the recipient of this year’s Blyton Book Award. This recognition is given in honor of KHSSL Hall of Famer Gifford Blyton, who is known for his contribution to Kentucky High School Forensics.
The recipient of the yearly award is a student who has shown excellence in multiple KHSSL events, and who has been an advocate for their team locally.
