J.L. “Buck” Buchanan, 89, of Morganfield died Monday, August 18 at Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson.

He was born December 16, 1924 to Jesse Lee and Rosa Buchanan. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganfield. He was a WWII United States Army veteran and was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He had been a coal miner and had retired from B.F. Goodrich Chemicals in Calvert City in 1985. He was also maintenance manager of the KY Sheriff Ranch from 1986-1991 and worked at Marshall County Recycling from 1996-1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Coleman, Raymond and Paul Buchanan.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wylene Buchanan of Morganfield, daughter Donna Clements, husband John, of Morganfield, son Bruce Buchanan, wife Trayce, of Henderson, grandchildren Cara Beth Baird of Waverly, Zachary Clements of Tampa, Florida and Sara Buchanan of Springfield, Missouri, great grandchildren Brittani Baird of Newburgh, Indiana, Lauran Miller of Springfield, Missouri, Josh, Calleigh and Colin Buchanan of Springfield, Missouri, Jolie and Jonathan Baird of Waverly, sister, Kay Lynn of Orlando, Florida and brother Gene Buchanan of Calvert City.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 21 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Rev. Tim Leadingham officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery.
