Arrest made in assault on Marshall County man

Benton Police Chief Tracy Watwood said an arrest has been made in the assault and robbery of an elderly man in his home this morning. During the robbery, Donnie Duke, 77, of E. 14th Street in Benton was brutally attacked

Shortly before noon today police arrested John Brumbalough, 29, of Benton and charged him with first degree assault, first degree robbery, first degree burglary and tampering with evidence.

Watwood said Duke knew Brumbalough and had let him inside his home prior to the attack.

Watwood said a description of Brumbalough's car was obtained through one of several surveillance cameras across the city. Both the Benton Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office were on the lookout for the car and were able to pull him over inside Benton City limits this morning.

Watwood praised the assistance of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department for the help in quickly arrested Brumbalough.

Donnie Duke is lovingly known to many in Marshall County as Bird Dog. During the attack Duke's throat was slit and he was left beaten and bruised. Police say he is expected to fully recover.
