Elizabeth Howard Harrell, 100, died Sunday, July 27 at the Calvert City Convalescent Center.

She was born on October 6, 1913. She was preceeded in death by her parents John A. and Verda Howard, husband of 65 years Albert P. Harrell, son Wayne T. Harrell, M.D., daughter-in-law Bertha Riley Harrell, grandchildren Ann and Lois Harrell, and brothers Wendell, Hoover and John Howard.

She is survived by daughter, Judy Tongate of Hendersonville,Tennessee, son-in-law, Darrel Tongate, four grandchildren, Jean Langley (Mark), Scott Tongate (Debbie), John Tongate (Amy), and Tammy Webb (Jeff), and 10 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Harrell was born in and lived in Marshall County her entire life. She received her education at Howard’s Grove One Room School, Calvert City High School, and Murray State College where she earned life teaching certification in both elementary and secondary education and a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She taught school at Howard’s Grove, Brewers High School, Calvert City High School, and Sharpe Elementary School. She also worked with the Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Harrell was a member of the Calvert City Church of Christ and the Marshall County Farm Bureau. She did volunteer work for several organizations and participated in various civic activities. She served as a past Grand Marshall of the Calvert City Ameribration Parade. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a Lady of Calvert City.

Visitation will be between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29 at Collier Funeral Home in Benton.

Funeral services will be held at Collier Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30 at 2 p.m. An additional visitation will begin at 1p.m. until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will be: Jon Langley, Scott Tongate, Blake Tongate, Zach Tongate, Jordan Tongate, John Tongate, and Jeff Webb. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews, Ron Crowell, Robert Hall, Chloe Howard, Linda Fisk, Bea Cornwell, and Dr. Terri Telle.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wayne T. Harrell Memorial Scholarship, payable to Murray State University Foundation, Office of Development, 200 Heritage Hall, Murray, KY 42071.
