He was a member of Altona Baptist Church and a member of the Carpenters Union Local #357. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his daughter, Caron Sellars of Calvert City; four grandchildren, Hillary Belcher, Carissa Belcher, Angel Thorning and Amber Thorning; two great grandchildren, Courtney Bonn and Kenneth Thorning.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Beckenbaugh Phelps; one son, Tracey Phelps and step mother, Ruby Swain Phelps. His parents were Joe A. Phelps and Lizzy Purcell Phelps.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Rice will officiate and burial with military rites provided by the William A. Doyle Post 236 of the American Legion will follow in the Fooks Cemetery.
