Mrs. Charlene Shelby, 75, of Gilbertsville, died on Tuesday, July 8 at her home. She was a member of Sharpe Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Shelby was retired from the Marshall County Board of Education where she worked as a school bus driver.

Born Tuesday, August 2, 1938 in Pope County, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles Holland and the late Alene (Bonnell) Holland.

Surviving are son, Donald Timothy “Tim” Shelby, wife Midge of Gilbertsville, daughter, Cheryl Bartlett, husband Keith of Benton, brothers, Charles R. Holland of Gilbertsville, and Benny Holland of Benton, three grandchildren, Matthew Burkeen, wife Shauna of Benton, Joey Shelby of Benton, and LeeAnn Van Metre, husband Brian of Calvert City, and five great grandchildren, Ben and Brady Burkeen of Benton, Brandon and Peyton Van Metre of Calvert City, and Jackson Shelby of Benton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Carl Donald “Satch” Shelby.

A Funeral service was held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Collier Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Moore officiating.

Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery, Gilbertsville.
