DRAFFENVILLE – The cliche about games not being over until they’re over stung the Titans of William A. Doyle Post 236 on Friday.
The hurt was still there on Saturday morning, and the Titans made a quiet and quick exit from the American Legion Junior state tournament at Mike Miller Park.
Paducah came from a 9-1 deficit to win 19-15 on Friday, and the Titans bowed out with a 10-0 loss Saturday morning to the Mustangs of Metcalfe County Post 65.
The team that played Metcalfe was downcast.
“You could see it in their eyes,” coach Josh Inglish said. “We wanted that first game under our belts. Especially against Paducah.
“They were just out of it.”
Post 236 was cruising, with a 9-1 lead after two innings. Paducah put two more runs on the board in the fourth to make it 9-3.
The roof caved in on the Titans in the fifth and sixth frames. Paducah erupted for eight runs in each of the two innings, and even though the Titans countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the sixth, the damage was done.
Justice Beal was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Austin Poe, Brandon Blossom, Cole Austin and Drake Anderson all were 2-for-4.
Against Metcalfe, Post 236 managed only four base hits, singles by Poe, Blossom, Austin and Anderson.
