Marshall County Fiscal Court last week gave approval for the replacement of the Wolf Creek bridge on Old Calvert City Road.
County Road Superintendent Russell York said the aging concrete structure was built in the 1960s.
He said the county was advised of the need to replace it by a Kentucky Department of Transportation bridge inspector.
“The concrete in the current bridge is starting to show signs of cracking and we had to put a weight limit on it back sometime ago,” said York.
The bridge is currently restricted to a 14-ton limit.
American Timber Bridge Company of Mississippi was the low bidder on the project and York said he expects work to begin sometime this summer.
The bridge will be comprised of wood decking and beams at a cost of $169,000.
