Fireworks exhibitions will punctuate holiday

The night sky will light up across the lakes area in western Kentucky this week with a number of fireworks displays scheduled beginning July 3 with viewing by land or by water.

Calvert City’s Ameribration celebration kicked off last weekend with a 5K race and fitness walk and continued last night with the Ameribration Pageant.

On Friday, the festivities will begin with a corn hole tournament at the pavilion at Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m., followed by a car show, arts and crafts and train rides for the kids at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park.

Live music featuring Cantageus will begin at 5 p.m. at Memorial Park. The parade kicks off at 7 p.m. along 5th street in Calvert City, with fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m.

Kentucky State Parks will also host fireworks shows in Marshall County. Kentucky Dam Village in Calvert City will present a live concert featuring Classic Wax at the old beach area beginning at 7 p.m. on July 4.

Fireworks will begin at 9:10 p.m. from Kentucky Dam Marina.

Kenlake State Resort Park in Aurora will host a fireworks display on July 5 at dusk.

Naturalist, author and photographer Scott Shupe will also present a free reptile show at Kenlake on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the park lodge.

Other area fireworks displays are planned for Moors Resort on July 3 at dusk, Lake Barkley State Resort Park in Cadiz on July 4.

The Freedom Fest Fireworks Extravaganza in Murray will be held on July 5 at dusk, along with Thunder Over Eddy Bay in Eddyville at 9:30.

A shuttle to the viewing area is available from the Outlet Mall in Eddyville. The Tom Akers Band will also perform at Eddy Creek Marina.

On the other side of the Land Between the Lakes, Lake Barkley State Resort Park will present Fireworks on the Fourth, a free activity on the beach, on Friday.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Lake Barkley, and donations will be accepted.

n Weekend Celebration, Saturday and Sunday, John James Audobon State Park in Henderson.

n Beach Party, Friday at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, Dawson Springs.

n Rumble on the Rough, Friday and Saturday, Rough River Dam State Park, in Falls of Rough.
