Mr. Christopher “Chris” Landon Heffington, 44, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, June 11. He was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident in Paducah.

Chris was born Tuesday, February 17, 1970 in Eldorado, Illinois, and was the youngest of his seven siblings. He was a 1988 graduate of Marshall County High School.  He left for the United States Navy and became a Corpsman, in which he excelled.  He was later handpicked to serve with the 24th Marine expeditionary unit where he went behind enemy lines to rescue wounded soldiers.  Chris was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Southeast Asia Service Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal for relief service during Hurricane Hugo.

Chris worked at many trades during his short 44 years including logging with his father, carpentry with his brother-in-law and truck driving for the last 10 years.  He was working for Usher Transport in Paducah.  He has seen much of the world and most all of the United States.

Chris loved to live and lived to love.  To know him was to love him.  His passing was a shock yet also brings peace to his loved ones knowing he left us doing exactly what he loved, riding.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Landon Heffington and his mother, Wanda (Stokes) Wells-Heffington. 

He is survived by his fiancé, Kim Temporiti-Reed, Benton, four sisters; Sherry “Sissy” Joiner, husband Rod, Rita Weaver, Elkhart, Indiana, Sharon Heffington, Paducah, Sheryl Henson, husband Kevin, Benton, three brothers; Curtis Wells, wife Debbie of Calvert City, Gary Wells, Paducah, David Wells, wife Veronica of Calvert City and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at Collier Funeral Home.April Montgomery officiated.
