Like a scene in a horror movie, members of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were called to Griggstown Road Thursday afternoon to detain a man wearing camouflage clothing trying to jump onto the hoods of moving vehicles and attack the drivers inside.

Deputy Tim Reynolds said the subject, 23-year-old Addison C. Calhoun, of Calvert City, emerged from the side of the road and jumped onto the hoods of two vehicles traveling on the road.

“He destroyed windshield wipers, struck the windows with his fists and tried to break through the glass to get inside,” he said.

One victim, Heather Marshall, of Benton, said Calhoun jumped on her car and after smashing his fists into it demanded she get out and give him the vehicle. Marshall called the sheriff’s department after the incident occurred, but before deputies arrived Calhoun damaged another vehicle and jumped in front of two others.

“Before we arrived he ran back into the woods and then he would come back out and jump in front of another car,” Reynolds said. “We had one driver ask us if he was trying to kill himself.”

When Reynolds made initial contact with Calhoun and told the subject he was under arrest Calhoun said no and lunged at Reynolds.

Reynolds said it took six officers and a tazer to restrain the subject.

“We did everything we could to get him to calm down, but we couldn’t. There was nothing we could do,” he said. “We were just concerned we were going to hurt him, but we didn’t want to.”

Calhoun was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, public intoxication – controlled substance, second-degree disorderly conduct toward a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.

Calhoun was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center and is pending other charges for damage on complainants’ vehicles.
