Solon W. “Soakie” Farmer, 85, of Benton passed away at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and is a retired electrician and member of the IBEW 816 in Paducah. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church since 1940.

Soakie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Anderson Farmer, four daughters, Karen Fulks of Benton, Bonnie Irwin of Monticello, Debbie Farmer of Benton and Vicky Farmer of Benton; 10 grandchildren, Robin Irwin of Paducah, Jessica Chiera of Valatie, New York, Whitney Smith of Monticello, Kasey Farmer of Henderson, Sarah Peck of Calvert City, Jacob Farmer of Clinton, Abby Bozeman of Marion, Levi Farmer of Benton, Megan Sherman of Boardman, Ohio and Emily Tillson of Gilbertsville; 11 great grandchildren, Jarid Chiera and Felicia Chiera both of Valatie, New York, Parker Smith and Palmer Smith both of Monticello, Hunter Peck, Bowen Peck, Quinn Peck and Annie Peck all of Calvert City, Alyssa Bozeman and Nathan Bozeman both of Marion and step-great grandson Taylor Ramage of Clinton.

He was preceded in death by one son, Solon W. “Butch” Farmer, Jr., two brothers, Samuel Holland Farmer and Bobby Brooks Farmer. His parents were Samuel L. “Bun” Farmer and Reba Darnall Farmer.

Graveside funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2 at Benton Cemetery. Rev. K. Alan Miller officiated.Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
