Mr. William Horace Sledd, 94 of Benton, passed away Sunday, April 20 at his son’s home in Benton. He was a retired operator and 50-year member of the Operating Engineers Local 181 and also retired from the Marshall County Road Department where he worked as a laborer. Mr. Sledd was a farmer as well. He was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was born Monday, December 8, 1919 in Marshall Co. He was the son of the late Hurley Sledd and the late Nannie Mary (King) Sledd.

He is survived by his son, Frankie Sledd, wife April of Benton, daughter, Betsy Ross, husband Mike of Kingman, Ariz., brother, C.H. Sledd of Mimms, Fla., sisters, Rose Crotzer of Reidland and Ruby Nell Davis of Sharpe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Juanita Virginia (Cone) Sledd; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Bro. Charlie Canup and Bro. Joel Frizzell officiated. Interment followed in Ford Cemetery in Benton.
