“Jerry” was a wife, a mother, a grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her husband, an extended family, many friends across the country and a church family all who adored her. Each was graced by her loving kindness and gentle heart and benefited by her teachings and by her example as a Christian woman.
Jerry was born in Detroit Michigan on April 23, 1927 to Michael, “Max”, Holland Reed and Jessie Mason Reed. The family moved from Michigan to California, and then back to Benton in 2006.
During her life time she worked many years in the food industry but later found what she referred to as her real calling, working with young children and spent many years working in community childhood education programs.
She went back to school to refine her art and at the age of 70 she was awarded her Masters degree in early childhood education.
After she retired she still enjoyed watching her great grandchildren and volunteering for her community and church.
She was a faithful member of Central Church of Christ. Jerry leaves behind her husband Carver Darnell, who is still recovering at Vanderbilt Hospital, after nearly 70 years of marriage, a son and daughter-in-law, Roe and Donna Darnell of California, a daughter, Melody Darnell of Benton, six grandchildren and spouses and 15 great-grandchildren. Her passing will be mourned by her family, her friends and community.
A memorial service will be conducted when Carver is able to participate.
