Muhlenberg anglers take top honors in MC open

GILBERTSVILLE – Eleven of 28 two-angler teams came out with empty nets in Saturday’s Marshall County Open high school bass fishing tournament, but three teams were at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Tyler Harris and Brandon Payne of Muhlenberg County boated five fish weighing 19.5 pounds to win the event.

Drake Oliver and Douglas Colson of Trigg County were close behind with a 19.1 catch, and Trigg took third place with a 17.7 catch by Austin Greene and Skyler Pool.

Fourth place went to Calloway County’s Brandon Bogard and Colton Jennings, who also had a good day with five bass weighing 17.4 pounds.

Another Calloway team, Brandon Mitchell and Robert LaRose, took fifth with four fish weighing 12.4.

For Marshall County, Adam Fitch and Cody Burgett took seventh place with a 9.3-pound catch. The weight came from only two fish, as Burgett claimed Big Bass honors with a 7.12-pounder.

Also for the Marshals, Peyton Porter and Shane Barrett caught two fish weighing 7.7 pounds to take 11th place, Nate Jones and Patrick Caruthers had three for 6.1 pounds and 12th place and James Gibbs and Aidan Cox were 16th with two fish weighing 3.4.

The KHSAA Region 1 tournament is Saturday out of Kuttawa Harbor Marina in Eddyville.
