DRAFFENVILLE – The Marshall County baseball team is off to a strong start in its first four games, with a pair of 11-1 victories in the weekend Marshall County Invitational tournament.
Earlier in the week, the Marshals won their season opener against Livingston Central in Smithland and dropped a one-run decision at Ohio County.
“We’re playing pretty well right now, for not having been out on the field very much,” coach Mike Johnson said of the Marshals.
“We’re getting some timely hits, and that’s always a good thing.”
Another tournament, the Big Orange Invitational, is on tap Friday and Saturday, with games at the MCHS field and at Mike Miller Park.
Teams from Illinois and Tennessee will meet Kentucky teams including the Marshals, St. Mary, Murray, Graves County and Union County.
Before that, Yorkville, Ill., which participated in this past weekend’s tournament and played at Murray on Monday, will return to Marshals Field to play Marshall County today. The game will start at 5 p.m.
On Friday, Marshall County plays Waukegan, Ill., and Montgomery Central of Cunningham, Tenn., is the opponent for Saturday.
