The lyrics of the song Hillbilly Water have all the makings of a country hit-moonshine, a preacher’s daughter and a shotgun wedding. It’s got a pretty good beat as well, and Nashville performing artist Buddy Jewell is hoping it will be a chart-topper when it’s released as a single this summer.
Jewell was in Benton yesterday to scout locations for a music video to be filmed exclusively in Marshall County. Jewell said the song, which is on his album titled “Country Enough,” and the music video will be released simultaneously later this year.
The video script for the production was written by Spencer Balentine of Silver Trail Distillery. The two met at a George Jones memorial concert in Nashville last year and began discussing how to set the song to video. Balentine said he got to work on the script and sent it to Jewell who quickly called wanting to get started on the project.
“We are real tickled to have Buddy working with us on this,” said Balentine. “Buddy is a winner and Silver Trail only associates with winners.”
Plans for the production of the music video include scenes at the farmhouse of Tater and Brenda Edwards in Palestine, a cabin owned by Layne Hendrickson in Benton, the old jail in the basement of the Marshall County Courthouse and at Kentucky Lake near Kenlake State Resort Park.
Balentine said there is a scene for Marshall County Judge Executive Mike Miller, playing the part of a sheriff in the early draft of the video script.
Balentine and Jewell said there will also be opportunities for Marshall County residents to serve as extras in the video when filming begins in a couple of months.
“When it gets a little warmer here, we’ll be back to shoot. We hope to get all the scenes done by mid-summer,” said Jewell.
Jewell was the first season winner of Nashville Star on USA Network in 2003.
His hit singles include Help Pour Out the Rain which became the highest-debuting single by a new country artist since the single’s charts were first tabulated by Nielson in 1990. This song reached number three on the country charts.
