Marshall County’s bass fishing team and an MCHS graduate who helped form the team were winners in recent tournament action.
Sophomore Colton Story and Flint Lovett had a 14-pound, 15-ounce catch to win the Calloway County Froggyland Classic on Kentucky Lake March 1.
Meanwhile, Logan Thomas, a 2013 graduate who is now fishing for the Murray State University team, won the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Open on Lake Chickamauga.
The Froggyland Classic was the season opener for area high school teams in the second season of KHSAA-sanctioned bass fishing.
Six Marshall County teams competed in the 23-boat field. The tourney was held out of the Fenton access ramp at the east end of Eggners Ferry Bridge.
Thomas got his first collegiate win on Saturday with partner Ryan Kirkpatrick of Lindenhurst, Ill.
The two netted 19.41 pounds and also claimed big fish honors with one weighing 6.45 pounds.
Eight MCHS anglers took part in the Muhlenberg County Open on Lake Beshear near Dawson Springs Saturday.
Out of 26 boats, only four fish were weighed.
“This cold weather really affected that small lake, I suppose,” MCHS coach Luke Anderson said.
Next up for the MCHS team is Saturday’s 2nd annual Trigg County Ice Breaker Open, rescheduled from its original date of Feb. 15. The tourney will take place on Kentucky Lake from the Fenton ramp.
