DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County got a typical balanced attack and a strong defensive effort to defeat Mayfield 66-34 Feb. 18, closing out the high school basketball regular season on a five-game winning streak.

The night before, the Lady Marshals defeated Webster County 72-49. Both games were at Reed Conder Gymnasium.

Against Mayfield, Marshall County seniors Allie York and Toni Fehrenbacher scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, and Bailey Greer and Michaela Manley finished just short of double figures, each with 9 points.

York hit 3-of-6 attempts from 3-point range and was 3-for-3 in the paint. She also led the team with nine rebounds. Fehrenbacher hit 5-of-9 field goals and both free throw chances.

Defensively, the Lady Marshals held Mayfield to 31 percent shooting from the floor as they led all the way from a 2-2 tie early in the game. The lead swelled to as much as 36 points.

Kaitlyn Isbell led the Lady Cardinals with 12 points.

DRAFFENVILLE – After Webster County jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the Lady Marshals ran off 15 straight points and never trailed after that.

They led 20-7 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to as much as 25 points.

Junior center-forward Alyssa Barnard led the attack with 15 points and came up just short of a double-double with nine rebounds.

Close behind was point guard Bailey Greer with 14, Michaela Manley with 12 and freshman center Hannah Langhi with 11.

Darrian McNary scored 16 for Webster County.
