Marshall County’s Lady Marshals basketball team accelerated toward the post-season with a trio of convincing victories last week.
The wins gave the two-time defending First Region champions eight victories in the last 10 games and a 23-5 overall mark.
The wins came at home against Livingston Central, Calloway County and St. Mary by an average of nearly 28 points per game.
Friday night’s victory over Fourth District opponent Calloway County came by a 69-49 score, in contrast to a 53-49 win the Lady Marshals eked out at Calloway on Jan. 10.
Lady Laker senior Summer Simmons scored 33 points in that game, but she was held to 8 points Friday night.
THIS WEEK: The Lady Marshals opened the week Monday with a late addition to their schedule, a home game against Webster County. They finish regular-season play by taking on Mayfield at home at 6 o’clock tonight.
Fourth District tournament action begins Feb. 25 at Reed Conder Gymnasium with Marshall County meeting Calloway County at 6 p.m.
The winner will take on Murray at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship, with both teams advancing to the First Region tournament the following week at Murray State University.

DRAFFENVILLE – Bailey Greer and Alyssa Barnard led an early spurt that powered Marshall County to a 20-9 first-quarter lead and the Lady Marshals never looked back.
Greer, who had 7 points in the first period, finished with 23 while Barnard, with 6 in the first quarter, ended with 17.
The lead grew to as much as 28 points at 66-38 before the conclusion.
Bailey Brown, Darien Maness and reserve Adyson Scott each had 9 points to lead Calloway.

DRAFFENVILLE – For the second game in as many days and the third time in a week, the Lady Marshals broke fast from the opening tip.
The Lady Vikings tied it at 2-2 on a basket by Alex Durbin, but two free throws by Alyssa Barnard put the Lady Marshals ahead to stay.
Allie York and Michaela Manley each had 14 points to lead Marshall County. Barnard added 12 and Bailey Greer had 10.
Durbin led the Lady Vikings with a game-high 19. Casey Kupper added 15.

DRAFFENVILLE – Livingston Central, with a pair of eighth-graders in their starting lineup along with two seniors and a junior, was overmatched against the Lady Marshals.
Marshall County took a 12-0 lead in the first eight minutes and was never threatened.
Coach Joseph Simmons emptied his bench and 11 different Lady Marshals scored.
Allie York led the way with 11 points in only 18 minutes of play.
Hailey Lampley paced the Lady Cardinals with 5 points.
