A Marshall County grand jury last week returned a three-count indictment against Jeffrey Nelson, 49, of Murray for the Thanksgiving Day crash that resulted in the death of Megean McCoy.

The grand jury indicted Nelson on the original charges of DUI, second degree manslaughter and an added charge of first degree bail jumping.

Nelson failed to return to the Marshall County jail after being granted a release from jail to attend his mother’s funeral in Georgia in early December.

He is now lodged in the Williamson County, Ill. jail, where he was rearrested for DUI and theft of a vehicle.

Nelson is scheduled to appear in Marshall County Circuit Court for arraignment on Feb. 3.

That date could change, as Marshall county officials are awaiting extradition from Illinois.

Along with the indictment, Nelson’s bond was increased from $100,000 to $250,000.

Nelson is accused in the death of McCoy, 23, when his vehicle crashed with hers while driving in the wrong lane on U.S. Hwy. 68/Ky. 80 near Aurora early on the morning of Nov. 28.
