He was a member of Benton First United Methodist Church, and a World War II Veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Quartermaster on the submarine USS Rasher from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1942.
He retired from BF Goodrich in Calvert City in 1984 after 37 years as a bulk handling supervisor. He was an avid golfer and a member of Benton Country Club for many years. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Chloe Jane (Riley) Hardesty; daughters, Tracey Sullivan of Evansville, Ind.; and Nola (Eddy) Edwards of Fairdealing; grandaughters, Brittney Edwards of Lexington; Lauren (Jacob) Ford; Stacy (Matt) Kennedy; Erin (Noah) Binkley and Kendall Sullivan of Evansville, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth E. Hardesty and Mildred Kinsner; and two brothers, L.W. (Brownie) Hardesty and Dallas W. Hardesty of Avon Lake, Ohio.
A private family service will be held at Collier Funeral Home.
