Mr. Ernest Ray Atherton, 68, of Mayfield passed away on Saturday, October 19 at 4:04 p.m. at the Green Acres Healthcare Facility in Mayfield.

He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He was retired from General Tire after 30 years and he was co-owner of Clark Feed until 2009.

Mr. Atherton is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vera Lee Clark Atherton of Mayfield; his mother, Mildred Wyatt Atherton of Mayfield; daughters Amanda (Chet) Duke of Mayfield and Terri (Billy) Thorpe of Benton; his brother, John Edd Atherton of Grand Rivers; five grandchildren, Daphne, Darren and Clark Duke of Mayfield and Travis and Tia Thorpe of Benton and four great-grandchildren, Lukin Rogers, Karch, Canaan and Paisley Duke, all of Mayfield.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Hicks Atherton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield. Rev. Glenn Cope will officiate. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Billy Thorpe, Travis Thorpe, Chet Duke, Clark Duke and Larry Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Lockhart, Bill Willett, Larry Atherton, Don Stabley and Johnny Allen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Green Acres Healthcare Activities Fund, 402 W. Farthing Street, Mayfield, KY 42066.
