Staff Report

The State Fire Marshal and the Kentucky State Police have been called in to investigate two house fires that occurred within hours of each other in Marshall County last night.

Both fires were in unoccupied homes, which Benton Fire Marshal Harry Green said raises suspicion of foul play.

At around 7:30 p.m. Palma/Briensburg firefighters responded to 60 Tri State Lane in Briensburg. Mutual aid was provided by volunteers with the Benton Fire Department. The home was unoccupied and no one was injured in the blaze.

At 10:45 p.m. the Benton Fire Department responded to another home at 3886 Oak Level Road. When firefighters arrived the home was fully engulfed according to Green. The West Marshall Fire Department provided assistance to extinguish the blaze.

Green said the home belonged to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and was not vacated.

Also responding to last night's house fires was the American Red Cross and the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.
