SUWANEE, Tenn. – Marshall County mountain bike riders won four of six races to take the team victory in the second race of the season for the Tennessee High School Cycling League Sunday at St. Andrews Suwanee School.
Carson Beckett won his second victory of the year in the three-lap varsity boys event, beating Jeremy Atkinson of Collierville (Tenn.) by nearly 15 seconds. Beckett finished the course in 55 minutes, 40 seconds, while Atkinson came in at a 1:09:23.
The Marshals’ Hunter Dunnigan also won for the second time in the JV boys event, defeating Charles Capps of Wilson County Comp. Dunnigan was timed at 1:05:48 to Capps’ 1:09.04. Derrick May finished sixth and Bailey Story was 11th in the race.
Karson Grizzard won the sophomore girls event with Marshall County teammate Jessica Tillson second. Andrea Anderson was sixth.
Justice Beal and Brock Costello had another 1-2 finish for the Marshals in the sophomore boys race. Nicholas Blanchard took 12th place.
In other races, Tennessee League rider Rachael Freeman got her second victory of the year in the junior varsity girls race. Samantha Ruley of Marshall County was fourth.
Also, Jameson Simms, also of Tennessee League, won the freshman boys event. Colton Adrian and Travis Tack of Marshall County were fourth and fifth, Isaac Bayer seventh, Bailey Mohler 11th and Hunter Peck 12th.
The Marshals won in team competition with 1,575 to Independent Riders’ 1,532. In cumulative standings, Marshall County leads Independent 3,150-3.092.
NEXT EVENT: The league will be at Herb Parsons Reservoir Lake course near Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 27.
