Local high school volleyball teams endured a rough week last week, with Marshall County and Christian Fellowship both losing a pair of matches.
The Lady Marshals, who had a three-match winning streak snapped Sept. 21 at Community Christian, fell in a pair of 3-2 decisions, on Sept. 24 at Graves County and Thursday at Ballard Memorial.
CFS fell 3-2 in a District 4 match at home against Murray on Sept. 24 and lost 3-1 at Community Christian Thursday.
At Mayfield, Graves County took a 25-15 first-set win. The Lady Marshals battled back to tie the match twice, winning 25-16, then dropping a 25-16 decision, then forcing the fifth set with a 25-18 victory. The Lady Eagles prevailed in a close final set, 18-16.
At Barlow, the Lady Bombers, who won a 3-1 decision at Marshall County on Sept. 10, were pushed to the limit by Marshall County but won three straight games to take the match. The Lady Marshals jumped out with 25-18 and 25-22 victories and came close to a straight-sets victory before the Lady Bombers extended the match with a 30-28 win.
They closed out the victory with 25-15, 15-10 decisions.
The Lady Marshals are 10-9 after the week of non-district matches. They are 3-2 in District 4.
At Briensburg, CFS slipped to 0-7 in district play with the hard-fought loss to Murray. The teams swapped 25-23 decisions in the first three sets, with Murray winning the first and third games.
CFS tied it with a decisive 25-16 win in the fourth game, but Murray took the win 15-11.
At Paducah Thursday, the region-leading Lady Warriors pushed their record to 21-6. CFS took the lead with a 25-15 first-set victory, but CCA won games by 25-15, 25-8 and 25-16 scores.
The Lady Eagles are 3-10 overall.
THIS WEEK: Marshall County is at home in a pair of district contests, with Murray visiting today and Calloway County Thursday. Varsity matches both nights are at 7:30. Christian Fellowship has a rematch at Murray on Thursday.
Both teams are in action in the Quad State Tournament, which moves this year to the new McCracken County High School in Paducah.
