Mary “Wanda” Elwanda (Martin) Sawyers, 78 of Benton died on Wednesday, September 4, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. She was born Thursday, January 24, 1935 in Elk City, Okla. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Tommy Sawyers and wife Kathy of Hardin, David Sawyers and wife Linda of Hardin and Tim Sawyers and wife Pam of Burna, daughters, Susan Starks and husband Steve of Benton, Mary Youngblood and husband Roger of Benton, Debi Youngblood of Hardin and Cindi Moon and husband Bill of Coquille, Ore.; sisters, Shirley Roberts and husband Tom of North Highland, Calif., Betty Miles and husband Sonny of Tyler, TX, Geri Lancaster and husband Phil of Garnerville, Nev. and Patty Anderson and husband Andy of Discovery Bay, Calif.; brothers, Gene Martin and wife Alice of Appleton City, Mo. and Mike Martin of Benton; sister-in-law Carol Martin of Stockton, Calif.; 20 grand children; 33 great grand children and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas C. Sawyers, brothers Donald E. Martin and Charles Martin, son-in-law Roy Youngblood, one grandchild Kenneth Youngblood and one great-grandchild Leah Sawyers. Her parents were the late Charlie and Lucille Smith Martin.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 at Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Rev. Chris Young officiated. Burial followed in Riverwoods Cemetery formerly Lighthouse Baptist Church Cemetery.
