Bennie “B.W.” Darnell, 80 of Possum Trot, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, at home.

He was a member of Little Cypress Baptist Church in Calvert City. B.W. was a member of Iron Workers Local Union # 782 and retired from Pip Johnson Construction. He was also a member of Doric Masonic Lodge #737 F&AM in Sharpe and served on the North Marshall Water Board for over 20 years. He also was a Kentucky Colonel.

B.W. played on the 1947-1951 Sharpe High School basketball team and later became an avid sports fan who loved Cardinal baseball, University of Kentucky basketball and attending all Marshall County sporting events and loved to play golf.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years and high school sweetheart, Patsy Wyatt Darnell; daughter and son-in-law Terri and Denny Lowery of Benton; son and daughter-in-law David and Sandie Darnell of Benton; son Jeff Darnell of Possum Trot; and one brother Paul Darnell of Possum Trot.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lenisa Jones and husband John of Calvert City, Cody Lowery and wife Sue of Bowling Green, Dustin Darnell of Paducah, Shelly Fisk of Benton, Kacy Jestes and husband Brent of Benton, Garrett Grow of Lexington, Ashley Grow of Benton and Charla Darnell of Benton; and two great-grandchildren; Edie Jones of Calvert City and Landon Lowery of Bowling Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Evelyn Darnell.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 9, at 1:00p.m. at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home in Benton. Burial followed in Fooks Cemetery.
