I’ve never been good at writing about myself.

I can tell someone else’s story, and I can write news, but when it comes to telling others about the details of my life my writing becomes a jumbled-up mess.

I’ve lived in Marshall County the majority of my life, but have never really considered myself part of this community. Well, not until recently.

I grew up in Sharpe and attended Sharpe Elementary, North Marshall Middle and Marshall County High School.

Following that I attended West Kentucky Community and Technical College, obtaining an associates in science – a degree I thought was my first step on a path to becoming a doctor.

Then I moved on to Murray State and started taking classes that would lead me to get a baccalaureate in chemistry with a minor in biology.

By chance I decided to take a journalism class as an elective during the spring semester of my junior year and throughout the course of the class I realized I didn’t want to be a doctor. I wanted to be a journalist.

I fell in love with the journalism program and immediately switched majors and became active within the student newspaper, The Murray State News. I graduated with my bachelors in journalism this spring and have been accepted to graduate school in the fall.

I’ve completed two internships since then, one at The Metropolis Planet in Metropolis, Ill., and the other at The Lake News in Calvert City, Ky.

Both gave me solid experiences in real-world journalism, and now I’m working full time for The Trib.

I’ve only just started, but I know this will be another great experience for me. I’m looking forward to better understanding this community and providing you with the news you need.
