JoLee Taylor, 100, died Friday, June 14, of natural causes.

Born Aug. 23, 1912, in Marshall County, JoLee grew up in Marshall County and in Detroit, Mich., where her family moved when she was 13. She graduated from Detroit Central High School in 1930 and worked for many years at Cadillac Motor Company in Detroit. In 1931, she married Rudy Taylor, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage before Rudy passed away in 1999.

JoLee grew up attending Bethel Baptist Church, Tatumsville, and then attended other Baptist churches in Michigan and Florida.

Her interests included bird watching, travel, golf, bridge, entertaining and especially time with family and friends. She kept many lifelong pen pals and friendships and was known by all who knew her for her keen sense of humor. She relished telling a good story.

JoLee is survived by daughter Janet Shearer, Lakeland, Fla.; son Rudy Taylor and wife Louise, West Bloomfield, Mich.; granddaughters Adrienne Abramson, Lauren Gillett and Jennie Shearer; and three great-granddaughters, June, Jolee and Gwendolyn.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, Tatumsville, to be followed by a Cox/Karnes family reunion in the church activities building.

Her family know that they were exceptionally blessed that God chose her for them.

Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of the giver’s choice.
