Mrs. Chloie Etheridge Newton, 87, of Benton passed away at her home on Friday, May 31. She was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she had worked outside the home at various times as a LPN at Murray-Calloway County Hospital and as an assembly line worker and first-aid nurse at Ashby Corporation and Conalco.
Mrs. Newton is survived by one daughter, Linda Newton Nelson, and one son, Jimmy Newton, both of Benton; two granddaughters, Tina Nelson Laemmle and husband Brian of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Jessica Newton Wayne, husband Nick of Nashville, Tenn.; great-grandson Ethan Guthrie of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and great-granddaughter, Ella Jennifer Wayne of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Willie Etheridge of Hardin; one sister, June Edwards of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack Newton; granddaughter, Jennifer Newton Gray of Benton; son-in-law Garry Wayne Nelson of Benton; her parents, Rufe and Stella (Starks) Etheridge; three brothers, Toy Etheridge, Orville Etheridge and S.T. Etheridge; and two sisters, Floy Vick and Loveda Salyers all of Hardin.
Funeral services wereheld Sunday, June 2 in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton.Brother Kevin Williams and Murray Riley officiated. Interment followed in the McNatt Cemetery (Marshall Co. Memory Gardens) in Benton.
