Marcella's Kitchen will be receiving $5,000 in its coffers thanks to an award from the Lead to Feed Program, and the efforts of a home-school chapter of the Future Business leaders of America.

The FBLA chapter is affiliated with the Parents as Teachers in Christian Homes home schooling support group. Audrey Poston, advisor for the FBLA chapter, said the group submitted their service project to judging by the Lead to Feed program. The group collected $913 to submit 83 bowls to the recent Empty Bowls project. In the process, the group, parents and siblings hand-painted each bowl.

Poston said she learned of the honor, a second prize award, today. The PATCH chapter was one of 10 organizations in the nation to receive $5,000. The full award will be going to Marcella's Kitchen, a community kitchen operating out of the Draffenville Lions Club. It serves meals ad midday every weekday.

Poston's daughter Victoria Poston said the bowls made by her FBLA chapter, and sold during the Empty Bowls project provided about 580 meals for those in need.
