DRAFFENVILLE -- Softball and fond memories brought neighboring communities and rival teams together to remember former Lady Marshal Landon Lovett in an emotional ceremony at the MCHS softball field Thursday night.

Lovett died Nov. 21 from injuries sustained in a Memorial Day highway crash. A student at Western Kentucky University, she was 19.

Players from the Lady Marshals varsity team and the Marshall County Magic youth team presented a visual display of remembrance of Lovett. Seniors Buzz Ray and Mallory Young presented a wreath to the Lovett family. Members of the Calloway County Lady Lakers also participated in the ceremony, which was held after the varsity game between the two teams.

Speakers, including MCHS assistant principal Patricia Greer, who coached the Lady Marshal team for three years, offered their thoughts on the former Lady Marshal second baseman. Lovett's squeeze bunt drove in the winning run in a 1-0 victory over Calloway in the 2011 District 4 tournament championship game in 2011, Landon's senior year. Remembrances noted the athletic and personal attributes of Lovett and emphasized the close relationship between Lovett and several Lady Laker players who played with Lovett on travel teams.

A plaque memorializing Lovett has been installed on a wall of the new concession and press box building.
