Born Sunday, June 25, 1944 in West Frankfort, Ill., he was the son of the late Leo H. Smith and Betty (Darnell) Smith of Paducah. He was a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, he retired after 31 years of service with the TVA Shawnee Steam Plant. He enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, wood working, reading, feeding the birds and cooking. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force while stationed at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. He was a member of Sharpe Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joette (Bradley) Smith of Sharpe, one son, Derrald Anthony “Tony” Smith, wife Kim, of Stanton, two sisters, Brenda Wooley, husband Charles, of Paducah, and Sondra Pax, husband John, of Jacksonville, Fla. two grandchildren, Megan Smith and Ethan Smith, both of Stanton, mother-in-law, Lucille (English) Bradley of Reidland, brother-in-law, Stephen Joe Bradley of Reidland. Several aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Jerry D. Smith.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 10, in the Chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Chris Moore officiating. Interment with military honors followed the service in the Provine Cemetery, Benton.
