James Milton Smith, 78, Murray, formerly of Marshall County, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at his home.

Mr. Smith was a self-employed truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Alford Masonic Lodge #925 F & AM and a member of Aurora Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Mae Hubbs Smith of Murray; three daughters, Kathleen Yancy and husband Herb, Fort Pierce, Fla.; Elizabeth Ann Coaley, St. Louis, Mo., and Faye Lynn Kaiser and husband Doug, Sikeston, Mo.; seven step-children, Darla Sue Cornwell, Kuttawa, Debbie June Reed, Calvert City, Douglas Allen Cornwell, Murray, Kerrie Jarell, Dexter, Mo., Tina Dannamuller and Jennie Phillips, both of Cape Giradeau, Mo., and Susan Roberds of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Bettie Sue Smith, Ashville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Lee Smith. His parents were Parker Clayton Smith and Euva Bell Phillips Smith Nichols.

A funeral service was held Friday, March 1, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home where the Rev. Dewey Dick officiated. Burial with military rites followed in the Marshall County Memory Gardens.
