W.J. Jeter, 94, Benton, died on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Lakeway Nursing & Rehabilitation in Benton.

Mr. Jeter was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Reed Crushed Stone.

Born Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1918, in Wayne County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Neal Jeter and the late Verna (Churchwell) Jeter. He was the husband of the late Mary Edith (Ray) Jeter.

Surviving are sons, Terry Jeter and Randy Jeter, wife Lana, all of Benton and Norman Jeter, wife Debra of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughter, Linda Tolbert of Benton; sister, Jean Carroll of Murphreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Shelley Noles of Benton, Nikki Wilbanks of New Concord, Clay Jeter of Los Angeles, Chris Jeter,Brittany Jeter, Shaun Holland, Lindsey Holland, Clint Holland, all of Benton and great-grandchildren, Audrey Noles, Jack Noles, Lauren Noles, Ethan Tate Jeter, Kenzie Briggs, Grady Holland and Finn Wilbanks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Arnold Jeter, Guy Jeter, Ray Jeter, Fay Jeter, Claude Jeter and sisters, Elizabeth Ann Brown and Johnnie Sue Jones.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Collier Funeral Chapel of Benton.

Interment followed in Benton Cemetery.
