He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WW II. Mr. Shemwell worked in the CC Camps. He was retired from Penwalt, and was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a trustee.
Born Wednesday, October 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Byron Shemwell and the late Roda (Brewer) Shemwell.
Surviving are wife, Virginia Louise (Reeder) Shemwell; son, Doug Shemwell and sister, Freda Wyatt, all of Benton.
He was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Doom, Bernice Irene Minter and Anna Louise Shemwell.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Collier Funeral Chapel in Benton, Kentucky. The Rev. Rodney Wallace and Rev. David Brasher officiated.
Interment followedin Hillcrest Cemetery, Benton.
