A contractor for AT&T plans to restrict traffic on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge starting about 10:30 a.m., CST, Today.

The lane restriction is to allow conduit and a new fiber optic cable to be placed along the bridge structure. This cable replaces a communications line that was severed when the 8200-ton ocean going Cargo Ship Delta Mariner struck the bridge last year, knocking a 300 ft. span into Kentucky Lake.

Motorists can expect to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers from approximately 8:00 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m., CST. Motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers, and electrical personnel are working on the bridge deck.

The contractor expects the work to take 3 or 4 days.

The US 68/KY 80 Eggner’s Ferry Bridge is at US 68 Marshall County mile point 28.146 and Trigg County mile point 0.0 at the western entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The Bridge carries approximately 2800 vehicles across Kentucky Lake/The Tennessee River in an average day.

The bridge opened to traffic in March 1932. In 1943 the bridge was closed for 6 months to allow the bridge to be raised to accommodate higher water levels due to the impounding of Kentucky Lake.

The bridge is at Tennessee River navigation mile point 41.7 near Aurora , KY.
