CALVERT CITY — Sheriff Kevin Byars said the suspect in a fatal shooting on Friday is facing additional drug-related charges.

Deputies responded to the shooting of Darryl Domingue, 32, Wickliffe, at the Griggstown Road home of Billy Don Greer, 55, at around 3:30 Friday.

Investigators believe Greer fatally shot Domingue twice with a 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun after the two argued.

Greer is being held in the Marshall County Detention Facility in lieu of a $250,000 cash bond. He appeared for arraignment in Marshall District Court on Monday where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He will face the possibility of a formal felony indictment by a Marshall County grand jury at a later date.

“After investigators arrived, we served a warrant on the home and surrounding buildings to collect evidence,” Byars said. “At that time, we located a light bulb we believed had been used for the smoking of methamphetamine. Mr. Greer was subsequently charged with the possession of a controlled substance, first degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.”

“We’re still investigating the motive,” Byars said. “Any time alcohol and other stimulants are a factor, it is not difficult for a situation to escalate.”

Domingue was taken to the Marshall County Hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead by the coroner.

Investigators say the two men were arguing in Greer’s garage, when Domingue’s wife Carrie asked her husband to stop arguing and take her home. She waited in her husband’s pick-up truck when Domingue walked out to join her.

Investigators believe Greer followed him out and shot him twice, once in the hip and once in the torso.

Byars said the shot to the torso was the fatal wound. At the time of the shooting, the Sheriff’s Department said alcohol may have been a factor in the argument.
