The Kentucky State Police, in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies will be out in full force during the New Years Eve holiday. The official holiday enforcement period begins at 6 p. m. on Friday, December 28th and extends through 11:59 p. m. on Tuesday, January 1st.

During the 2012 holiday period, crashes across Kentucky claimed the lives of six people. There were 1,314 crashes reported for that time frame and 63 of those involved alcohol.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety during the holiday period by reporting erratic, impaired or speeding drivers to KSP toll-free hotline at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

In an effort to reduce injury and fatal crashes within the post one area, KSP has comprised a list of high crash roadways for each county within the post one district. Post 1 Crash locations are available on the website at www.kentuckystatepolice.org/posts/press/post_1crash_locations.htm. The roadways were selected based on four years' worth of collision data for serious injury and fatal crashes in each county. Motorists will notice increased patrol along these routes during the holiday period with a zero tolerance approach to occupant restraint, speeding, and DUI offenses. These offenses along with various other careless driving habits continue to be the primary cause of injury and fatal collisions. Below is a list of the roadways which will see heightened enforcement in the post one area. MP indicates the mile marker range for the roadway.

The above locations are subject to change based on historical crash analysis. Crash statistics are available to the public by visiting the Kentucky State Police website at www.kentuckystatepolice.org or www.crashinformationky.org .

In addition to the saturation patrols on the high crash roadways, Troopers will be conducting numerous traffic safety check points throughout the holiday period.
